“Purchase” Inbound Links from Google’s Content Network
By greyholme | June 9, 2009
Where is the best place to build domain diversity of your inbound links? None other then Google’s content network! How is this possible? Right now it is as easy as 1,2,3
1. Googlebot parses and crawls javascript
Google announced at the recent I/O that GoogleBot is capable of parsing javascript. While this makes life easier on many webmasters, one major implication was overlooked. Ads across all the major content network are rendered using javascripting. If Google is capable of parsing this javascript the links will be found and crawled.
2. AdWords Ads Displayed Across Content Network Using JavaScript
Of course, I thought, surely Google recognized the implications of this? Googlebot must already be trained to recognize the javascripting used to serve ads and will disregard this information. Right? Apparently I was wrong, a recent article at Search Engine Watch by Mark Jackson shows that Google Webmaster tools recognized display ads as inbound links!
3. Display Ads Quickly Build Number of Inbound Links
This has major implications as now advertisers on Google will actually receive better organic results since their sites have more inbound links. Essentially this means they are purchasing links directly from Google across the content network! I’m sure this was not the intended result of the updates, but right now advertising on the content network will give your website a competitive edge.

If anyone has further evidence please let us know, but I expect this oversight to be corrected soon. If not Google’s historical separation of organic and paid results is no more.
